I need to remove the dash trim on a '93 Camry so I can replace
a lightbulb behind the heater/fan control knobs. I removed
two screws above the speedometer area and tried tugging the
trim out, but it seems to be quite snug above the radio area.

What else do I need to remove or loosen in order to pull
out this trim?

Thanks
-Al

I just did this last weekend! These are the steps I recommend after my
bumbling though it:

1) remove the radio bezel. Use a flat, thin blade (putty knife, e.g) to slip
under it at the lower side. It has a couple of catches at the top, so will
will rotate up and can then be slipped out from under the instrument
bezel.

2) Remove the two screws exposed by removing the radio bezel, plus the
two screws above the instrument panel.

3) Remove the parking brake release handle.

4) Gently work the instrument bezel out. It will tend to catch on the
dash as you remove it.

5) If you are changing an instrument light, as I was, be prepared to
replace the foam strips that are wrapped around the air ducts where they
slide into the plumbing behind. Mine were falling off.

Good luck, hope that helps! Let me know if I left anything out.

Let me know if this job is simple and goes smoothly for you.
Same thing happened on my '94 Camry just last last week - illumination
on the heater controls went out.
While I've done much more complex automotive tasks, my thinking on the
heat control knobs is this:
To avoid breaking concentration while driving, I always attempt to use
the heater control knobs without taking my eyes off the road.
Notice how they are arranged.
The first (temperature) control is larger, the middle (fan knob) is
smaller, then the third position control knob is larger again, so it's
fairly easy to distinguish between them without looking, with just a
little practice.
The first (temperature knob) is tapered, so you can tell by touch
which way it is pointing, and from there is fairly easy to turn it
left or right as needed to adjust heat.
The only control that would take more effort to learn, is the control
position on the far right, from vents, to vent and floor, to defrost,
etc.
The smaller fan control in the center, is obvious by touch, off, low,
med., high.
While I always thought the red, white, blue temperature control colors
were nice to have illuminated, and even though I like to have every
little thing on the car perfect, this one didn't seem worth the effort
to unseat the knobs and remove the instrument cover panel.
Now if the illumination for the speedometer and tach go out, that's a
different story.
Again, if the work goes fairly simply for you, please report back.
Thanks.

Thanks, AndyMan.

I was afraid it would involve removing stuff around the radio
as well. For that reason I'm going to wait a bit to do this,
as this is my son's car, and we also need to replace his
radio and antenna. So we'll do it all while the dashboard guts
are exposed!

FWIW, the radio is easy.
